Lakshmi Kannan is a bilingual writer. She uses the pen-name `Kaaveri’ for her writings in Tamil. She is a poet, novelist, short story writer, essayist and is her own translator. She has biographical inclusions in many national and international encyclopaedia of authors.
She has published twenty five books till date that include collections of poems in English, several books of fiction in English translation as well as her original works in Tamil. The Glass Bead Curtain (Vitasta, 2016) is her latest novel in English. Besides English and Hindi, her fiction has also been translated into French, Marathi, Malayalam, Bangla, Urdu and other languages
Lakshmi received Resident Fellowships from the International Writing Program at Iowa, University of Iowa, (USA); Charles Wallace Trust Fellowship at the University of Canterbury at Kent, (U.K.); Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla and Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. She was a British Council Visitor to the University of Cambridge. She has given readings and talks in several national and international seminars at home and overseas in Stanford University, San Jose State University, USA, and at U.K., Canada and the Netherlands.
She attended the universities of Delhi, Jadavpur (Kolkata) and the University of California at Irvine, USA. She has a B.A. (Hons), M.A. and Ph.D. in English and was a Post-doctoral Fellow of the UGC. She was on the faculty of English with various universities for several years before she worked with the creative department of a MNC as a senior writer.
