Born in 1961, P Surendran is a Lecturer in Govt Higher Secondary School, Kumaranalloor, Kerala. His collections include Piriyangoveni, Bhoomiyude nilavili, Haritha vidyalayam, Karutha Prarthanakal, Bermuda, Azhathintteniram, Jalasandhi,64 Short Stories, Rajaneethi, Chinese Market, Buddha Vasthram, Synonyms for the sea & other stories. His novels include Mahayanam, Samuhyapathom, Mayapuranam and Jaivom. Ramachandran is his critique on art. Surendran's more recent works include Che, Kaveriyude Purushan (novella), Malayala Pacha (essays) and a translation of Rasleela.
He has been awarded with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2003, the Odakuzhal award in 2004, Mathrubhumi Kalalaya award, Mulberry award, Ankanam award, SBI literary award, Thoppil Ravi award, V.P Shivkumar memorial Keli award and the Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy award for his significant contribution to literature. His themes on nature and trees in particular are striking to the reader.
