  ARTICLES / DISCUSSIONS

Prof Bhargavi Rao, one of the founding editors of Muse India, passed away suddenly on May 23, 2008. A recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award for translation she had done pioneering work in the area of Women’s writings in Telugu. Sujatha Gopal, a research scholar under her, and V Nagalakshmi, pay their tributes to her. An interview done with her by Ambika Ananth a few years ago is included.

The section also features interviews with the eminent Malayalam poet O N V Kurup and the noted poet-editor Rabindra Swain. Articles by Ram Sharma and A Vasavi complete the section.
    BOOK REVIEWS...
Prof Riemenschneider, the scholar-reviewer writes, “The Enchantress of Florence, Rushdie’s ninth novel, historically accurate as well as imaginatively conceived … is proof again of his many literary talents and his unceasing interest in probing into possibilities for a mutual understanding of cultures …”

Other reviews in the section are by Ambika Ananth, B T Seetha and Suseela Ravi.

    FICTION...

Read Rochelle Potkar’s adorable story of the impressionable youngster Aditi, who discovers, by sharing her room with an elder college-going cousin, what all is involved in growing up into an attractive teenager.

Other engaging stories in the section are by Ashoka Sen, Kanakasabapathi, Revathi Seshadri and Vinayak Varma.

    POEMS...
In Rajarshi Singh’s poem, read the engaging dialogue between Nachiketa, the perennial student who had once taken on Lord of Death himself, and Gandhi the savant of the modern times, on issues that perplex our minds today.

Other poets featured in the section are Debashish Lahiri, Kumarendra Mallick, Laksmisree Banerjee, Mamatha Kodidela, Monika Pant, Nikesh Murali, Susmita Srivastava, Uma Maheshwari and Varlotti Rengasamy. Selections from Your Space are presented by Ambika Ananth.
