Mr S Krishnamoorthy was born in Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu in 1929. He secured first rank in BA (Sanskrit) in Madras University and obtained his MA (English Literature) from Nagpur University.
After working in colleges for a few years, he joined the Indian Audit and Accounts Dept. and has been living in Kolkata from 1955. He retired as Deputy Director of Audit in 1987.
He has been writing short stories and articles since the fifties. A multi-lingual author, he writes in Tamil, English and Bengali. He has published two collections of short stories in Tamil and one in English. In all, he has 200 short stories to his credit. He has translated over 40 books, including the Tamil classics Silappadikaran and Tirukural into English and Bengali respectively. He has written Tamil biographies of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Saratchandra Chatterji, Premchand and Iswarchandra Vidyasagar.
Mr Krishnamoorthy is recipient of several awards. He is former President and current Vice President of the Bharati Tamil Sangham, Kolkata, and has been teaching Tamil to non-Tamils at the Sangham for the past three decades.
